Read get your child to read to you every day.

With the shorter days and longer nights, the children have continued to work with passion in their lessons.

Year 3 enjoyed investigating the non-contact forces of gravity and magnetism. The children were surprised that magnets are used in computing, furniture, robotics, bank cards and even your electric food mixer at home! They were able to identify objects in the classroom that used magnets to make them more effective. After this, they used magnets to assess whether items were attracted or repelled.

During an English lesson, we learnt what a good debate looks and sounds like. We found out how professionals in The House of Commons use their persuasion skills. Using a double spread of text from UG, their most recent piece of literature, the children debated whether a meander in the river should be diverted from a natural wetland to Ug’s village. The children showed so much passion and conviction that the group (who were fighting for the diversion) had to leave their inner ecologist behind to get into character, and they found it hard to fight for a cause they didn’t believe in. Kayson was in the chair, and he made sure that he called the House to order!

Today we had our Festival of Light enrichment day. In Year 3, we studied the Sikh festival known as Bandi Chhor Divas (Prisoner Freedom Day). We wove tassels to signify the 52 prisoners freed by Guru Hargobind. We learnt about the Sikh religion, its history and the religious rituals that they follow. The children designed some beautiful Divas (lights which are used to signify freedom) and drew a scene showing a Gurdwara which is the place where Sikhs come together for congregational worship. The children produced such stunning and detailed work, well done!

Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy opening your first advent calendar doors on Sunday!
