    Spellings

    At home - TT Rockstars and Reading (AR targets)

    We have practised our performance with Year 2.

    In English, we are using our vocabulary on emotions to describe how the main protagonists might be feeling.

    In Maths, we are learning how to use our division calculation to solve word problems.

    We visited Elfridges and had fun choosing our presents.

    TT- With the new school mathematician mammoth, things are getting exciting on a Friday, lets increase our speed in year 4 and get practising. Please remember in year four part of our homework is to do TT rockstars 3 times a week at a minimum. 

    Talk homework: Thinking back to our practical model of the digestive system, can you name all seven parts of the digestive system we learnt about and what each part does. 

    Reading: Please take the time to participate in reading to an adult for a recommended 5 minutes a day.  

    We have had fun in Science, watching a piece of weetabix going through the digestive system.

    In Maths, we have started to learn about short division.

    Spellings: generally, ususally, finally, beautifully, cruelly, carefully, faithfully, peacefully, wonderfully, thoughtfully.

    Talk homework - Explain to your adults / family what we have been doing in Maths - how we find the quotient to division questions that involve a large dividend, e.g. 54 divided by 3.

    We also handed back some assessment papers. The children have circled a question that they have been taught, and it would be great if you could spend some time going over it together. There are some elements of the paper that we have not taught and will be teaching soon. 

    In Year 4, we have been debating if our main protagonist, Chaya, is right to steal in order to help others.

    We had fun in Geography, where we drew on satsumas to show the lines of latitude and longitude. We also discussed the location of the Equator and the Prime Meridian.

    In Science, we have been observing eggs that represented our teeth in different liquids over the past few days. We took them out of the liquid to find out how they had changed. Tell your adult / family what happened to each one!

    TT Rockstars - the tournament is still on.

    We have delving into our English book - The girl who stole an elephant - and we are about to find out what will happen next to our feisty protagonist.

    In Maths, we are solving problems using our 3 times tables.  Ask us how to work out 23 x 3.

    We have been practising our play.  Please help us to practise The Recycling Song - the verses in order are:

    glass bottles, cardboard, paper, plastic and tin cans.

    Talk homework - talk to your adults and family about the play and how you can add in expression and action.

    TT Rockstars - a new tournament is on between the two Year 4 classes!  Please practise - Garage Band awards more points

    Spelling - information, sensation, preparation, vibration, decoration, donation, duration, registration, population, determination.

    We have had some fantastic matches in netball where we were able to use all the skills we have learnt, foot work, 3 second rule and different types of throwing.

    In Maths, we have been working on solving problems using subtractions with more than one exchange.

    In English, we wrote a piece of writing filled with fronted adverbial, expanded noun phrases and exciting vocabulary about the video we watched on Literacy Shed - Hunted.

    Today, we evaluated our DT project, which was the interactive active factsheet.

    Reading: remember to read 15 minutes in readiness to complete AR quiz at school.  If you are not getting full marks in your quizzes, try reading out loud and slower. 

    On Friday, we enjoyed our first non-uniform day with all contributions going to the painting of our Mini-G (giraffe calf) project.

    In Maths, we have been learning about number lines and how to order numbers up to 10,000 within them.

    In English, we have completed a great fact file about giraffes.

    We are combining the skills we have learnt in netball to begin playing games on the court and on the field.

    Talk homework - Talk to your adults at home about the Ancient Sumers and the similarities and differences they have with us.

    TT Rockstars - The battle between the classes is going strong - remember to practise every day.

    Reading - read for 15 minutes a night and you can do your AR quiz when you are back in school.

    Year 4 have been busy doing auditions for our performance.  We are hoping to have the script ready for next week. 

    In PE, we have been outside playing rugby and netball where the children have been learning about teamwork.

    We have been developing our English skills by using inverted commas and modal verbs in our work.

    In Maths, we are looking ten thousands and how to add and subtract 1, 10, 100 and 1000 to these.

    Year 4 had a fantastic trip to Cambridge this week when we learnt all about animals and their habitats, a big thank you for all the parents support to get us there. Miss Harris has set a challenge for both classes to battle against each other on tt rockstars, so please encourage your child to take part. We are moving onto our thousands and place value next week. Within History, we learnt about the timeline and explored how to add different events on. 

    Talk homework: Tell everyone over the weekend about what you learnt about how to analyse a painting and what conservation is. Additionally, tell your adults about our upcoming play.

    Spellings: inactive, incorrect, invisible, insecure, inflexible, indefinite, inelegant, incurable, inability, inadequate, they're.

    Reminders: PE kits, whiteboard pens, rules, pencils, practise your lines for Monday.

    Reading - please read for 15 minutes a day.  There is no longer BOOM reader for Year 4s but they will still be doing AR quizzes in school.
