Week beg 15 January

What have Year 5 been busy doing this week?

There have been many highlights this week. Sofia and Carys enjoyed our science experiments. We explored solubility and the roles of forensic scientists as they had to identify the mystery white powders. In Geography, we've been learning about plastic pollution, The Great Pacific Garbage Patch and industries that use our oceans.

In Maths, we reviewed squared/cubed numbers and finished our unit on fractions. Over the next few weeks, we'll be focusing on short division and the multiplication of four by two digits. It's crucial that children practice their multiplications on TTRockstars as much as possible each week please.

For PE – netball (Tuesday) and Hockey (Thursday) –  please remember to bring warm layers as it is outdoors, and the temperature is dropping.

Next week, we will be starting our sculpture projects in Art as we build our sea turtles and jellyfish exhibition. To learn more about the reasons behind our art project, read this: https://www.worldwildlife.org/stories/what-do-sea-turtles-eat-unfortunately-plastic-bags

In a couple of weeks, we will also be building our DT projects (mechanical CAMs) and each child will need a box similar to a small cat food box to be able to build. Please start to bring these in as soon as possible.

Please also support your children in daily reading, spelling practise and learning their times tables on TTRockstars.

Enjoy your weekend
